Feeling Myself: Mastering The Art of Self-Love

You are worthy of love

The room was twinkling with pretty lights, the vibe was high and the love was flowing. I was definitely feeling myself. This Saturday's day long retreat at the gorgeous Loft 108, was a soul warming treat for all who who were there. And this is my attempt to keep the good vibes flowing to you.

We began the day by introducing ourselves and naming one thing we each hoped to get out of the day. Mine was to share my love and receive that of others - yup, the gig is up - I'm a total cheese ball. Moving on...I gave a talk about how self-love changed the course of my entire love life and how it's the key ingredient to having a healthy and positive relationship.

"Can I stop loving myself, because I have a man who loves me? No, in fact in order for him to keep loving me the way he does, I have to keep loving myself. This is THE key to having harmonious relationships."

Following my talk was a presentation by Karla Gomez, about our 7 chakras and how essential oils can help support each and every one of them. We tasted doTerra oils in our water and sampled them on our skin. We were instantly energized, and our hearts more open. After a quick break and the yummiest treats, Rose, Founder of Luxcey presented us with self-care techniques from around the world, with a special focus on her Cameroonian roots. She lead us through a self-loving massage using closed-fists, like they do "back home". This is something I'll definitely be taking back to my own home.

And finally, as a perfect segway to our healthy lunches, Danielle Levy, gave us the most complete rundown I've ever heard on whole food, plant-based diets (which doesn't mean vegan or vegetarian. This was total news to me), and encouraged us to prepare our own meals with pride and love, of course.

After chowing down on our lunch bowls from Le Kitchen and sippin on JOYS of Living juices, we moved into a guided mediation, led by yours truly.  This was moment was beyond magical. And as we came to the end of the meditation, I had the ladies place their hands on their hearts and repeat these words after me:

I am so worthy.I am so loved.I love to love.I love to be loved.I am love.

Then we all gave ourselves a big warm hug. As I opened my eyes and looked out onto the room of women, eyes closed, embracing themselves, with smiles and tears running down their faces, I was done for. Total heart explosion, and I couldn't contain my tears any longer. It was powerful, beautiful and by far my favourite moment of the day. We took this euphoric feeling into some journaling time where we let our thoughts run wild. One of the ladies was so inspired she wrote this beautiful piece:

When windows let in sun & sky,

Our eyes are bright and sit so still.

Plants can grow and flowers sigh,While time flows freely at its own will.

Connections spark and stresses sleep,

So that our feet might slow their pace.

Kind words extends from passions deep,Turning joy into smiles that fill my face.

Thoughts are easy.Love flows freely.

As if this weren't enough, we closed the day by saying one thing we loved about ourselves (at this point in the day, many couldn't choose just one!) and then relaxed our way into a yin yoga practice led by one of the strongest teachers I've ever met, Stella Artuso. We listened to our bodies, respected our limits and lovingly moved from one asana to the next.

This day was like a dream, a really, really good one.
