If You want to Meet Someone, Look Up

How often do you find yourself looking down at your phone, or any other item in your hands, while you're in a crowd full of people?

Maybe you're on the subway and to pass the time, you're scrolling through Instagram or reading a book.

But, if you're always looking down, what are you potentially missing out on?

If you want to meet someone, it could truly be as simple as looking up.

I can't help but wonder about all the missed connections that would be happening if people were more present and made more eye contact. A smile here, some eye contact there...it would make all the difference.

And this doesn’t just go for the public transit. Imagine how many more opportunities there would be to connect with others, romantically or otherwise, if when you were at a coffee shop, you simply sat and drank your coffee - with no armour. Or, if when you’re waiting in line at the grocery store, you looked around instead of at your phone. As much as we think life is happening on our devices, there’s a whole lot more happening in real-time all around us. But we’re missing it. Countless hours and opportunities wasted, every single day by not looking up. If you are right now, wanting to meet someone, I would like to suggest starting with this one simple step:

Put your phone away when you’re sitting idly, waiting in a line - or walking (for the sake of your safety, too) and make eye contact with people.See, we love to overcomplicate things by wondering where in the world we could possibly meet someone in this day and age. But if you stopped to take a moment and assess your daily routine - how much more room for connection could there be from walking to your car, to exercising at the gym and all the other "mundane" moments in between?

I will forever be grateful to my husband Jack, for looking up. We met on the street as I was just about to step into a cab. He looked up, I caught his attention, and the rest as they say, is history.

By looking up more often, not only will you increase your chances of making a love connection, you'll also be present for the real deal - your life that's happening right now, in this moment.

So the next time you catch yourself pulling out your phone in public to simply scroll and escape the moment, consider putting it away and checking out the life that's happening around you instead.

Peace, love and more connection,

Diana
